In our latest ANRA Huddle, “Certified as a USSP/CISP – What is Next?”, we explored the significance of ANRA Technologies becoming the first company certified by EASA as both a U-space Service Provider (USSP). This milestone marks a major step forward for regulated drone operations across Europe.
But certification is just the beginning, and that’s exactly what this Huddle explored.
ANRA CEO Amit Ganjoo walked us through what it really took to earn EASA certification. Over nearly two years, ANRA underwent a thorough evaluation, not just on technology but on our safety, cybersecurity, incident response, and data governance.
Stéphane Vaubourg from EASA offered the regulator’s view, emphasizing that this process is designed to ensure that certified providers can consistently deliver safe and secure services in live, complex airspace.
With the certificate in hand, the focus now shifts to implementation across EU member states. While EASA sets the rules, each country is responsible for onboarding providers and activating U-space locally.
Andrew Hately and Amanda Boekholt shared insights into how this is playing out in real time, what states are doing to prepare, and how coordination with national authorities and ANSPs is key to getting U-space off the ground.
From the operator side, Stephen Sutton reminded us that none of this matters if services don’t work in the field. Operators need clarity, reliability, and real-time support. As U-space services roll out, delivering value to those flying drones day to day will be essential to success.
To wrap up, Munish Khurana from EUROCONTROL stepped back to give us the strategic view. He reminded us that U-space isn’t just about drones, it’s about digitally transforming airspace for all future users, including advanced air mobility. The building blocks we put in place now will shape the airspace ecosystem for years to come.
Certification is a huge achievement, but it’s just the start. As we heard from every panelist, the real work now lies in making U-space operational across Europe, state by state, service by service.
We’re incredibly proud to help lead that effort, and we’re committed to working with partners across the ecosystem to make safe, scalable drone operations a reality.
